What is the difference between a Virtual and a Dedicated Server?
A Virtual Server resides on a computer that also hosts other Virtual Server accounts. This means that the computer's hardware resources and associated bandwidth are shared among multiple sites. A Virtual Server is an excellent solution for small to medium sized businesses that want to create a powerful Internet presence. By contrast, a dedicated server is an "industrial-strength" system of hardware, operating system software, and web server software which you control and to which you have exclusive access. All of the server's powerful resources and bandwidth are allocated entirely to your Internet site, enabling you to offer features and service levels to your customers, employees, and suppliers that go beyond the standard capabilities of a Virtual Server.

What are the advantages of a Dedicated Server?
A dedicated server gives you the ability to build an interactive web site capable of handling hundreds of thousands of hits per day. This is the ideal solution for high traffic sites that have high bandwidth and server requirements. On-line malls, high-profile software repository sites, and large e-commerce businesses generally require at least one dedicated server to maintain top performance levels.

^ top

When should I upgrade my Virtual Server to a Dedicated Server?
You should consider migrating to a dedicated server when your Virtual Server traffic grows to more than 50,000 hits per day. When traffic reaches this level, the performance of a Virtual Server degrades and a dedicated server becomes necessary to ensure availability and performance.

Who owns the Dedicated Server hardware?
We own and maintain all of the server hardware. You benefit from this because if a piece of hardware fails we have the spare parts on hand along with the knowledge of the configuration to repair any problems immediately. This provides you with complete administrative control of the Server without worrying about hardware problems and support issues.

Who provides system administration for the Dedicated
Server?

With a Dedicated Server, you have total administrative control of the server, as if you were hosting it on your very own Server at your location. This means that you have the flexibility to configure the system and the applications to meet your unique business requirements. If you should need assistance with system administration, our expert engineers can provide you with remote "eyes and hands" support.

What are co-location services?
co-location refers to physical presence of servers in an ISP's network operation node. Typically the co-located server has a direct Ethernet connection to the backbone router(s) of the ISP.

What kind of services does ITS Group Information Technology offer ?
A) What level of uptime can I expect ? We are striving to provide an uptime level of 99.7% on a monthly basis. In other words we reserve the option of 2 hours of downtime per month for maintenance. Uptime in this case will be a pingable IP address.

B) Power circuits/batteries/generator ? Each co-location client will receive a separate power circuit.

C) 24 hours 7 days a week access is available.

Why should I co-locate a server instead of getting T-1(s) to my location? Pros and Cons:
Pros of co-location:
a. Cost savings: No Telco charges for Leased Line services, which results in saving of hundreds to thousands of dollars per month.

b. Higher Reliability: It is a known fact in the Internet Access business that the number one cause of downtime is associated with failing Telco based leased lines. co-location servers have a direct and short connection to the backbone router, yielding close to 100% uptime. Power outages still contribute a large percentage of downtimes for internet companies. However, with ITS Group Information Technology's co-location services, you receive battery backed up power with generator ties for continuous network operation.

c. Faster Network Connectivity: co-location servers will have a direct Ethernet running at 10Mbps or 100Mbps connections, these machines are not limited by slow Telco based circuits running at ISDN or T-1 speeds. Ethernet based connections also have a much lower latency than leased lines which results in a faster response time for latency sensitive applications such as telnet.

Cons of co-location:
a. Machine Manageability: The only disadvantage with co-location is that the server is not located close to the client's operation. That means remote management for the machine can become an issue. ITS Group Information Technology is monitored and manned 24x7, so when your machine needs attention or a reboot, you can do it remotely, or give us a call.

My local ISP offers the same service. Why should I use ITS Group Information Technology Net?
Does your ISP know the first thing about Network Engineering? That's all we do here. Our geeks are certified and have over 60+ people years of experience in dealing with technology. This means more uptime for your servers and above all you get results.. NOT excuses.

Consider, also: does your ISP offer any of the added benefits which ITS Group Information Technology can provide?

24 hour a day UPS? Weekly back-ups? Low price? 24 hour a day monitoring? Remote Access? Knowing eyes watching your critical data all day and night?

For the increased value added benefits which ITS Group Information Technology offers with its Co-Location services, there is no comparison.

If I am an ISP or a reseller (Web, dialup, dedicated) may I co-locate my equipment ? Pros and cons.
Absolutely, we welcome all ISPs to co-locate with us and use our facilities.

Pros for ISP co-location:

a. Neutral Zone: Once an ISP co-locates within a Telco's facilities they are locked into using them as the preferred vendor. As a matter of fact the Telco's have first right of refusal on other carriers in their facilities. By co-locating with ITS Group Information Technology you will have access to other carriers in the building.

c. Sub co-location: We have no problem with ISPs co-locating machines in their areas as long as our operational policies are honored.

^ top

What are the policies for co-location services offered by ITS Group Information Technology ?
A) Cross Connect policies and wiring:

In order to have an order/responsibility we cannot allow our co-location clients to run their own wires. All cross connects have to be performed by us.

B) Construction and modification of space.

Under no circumstance shall the tenant make any construction or modification changes to their space or the public area without a written notice and approval from ITS Group Information Technology.

C) Access issues and policies.

The client will have access to their co-location site 24 hours 7 days a week . ITS Group Information Technology will be assigning two keys and magnetic access cards to the employees of each co-location client. We require a current ID, Driver License, or passport of each person who receives a key.

D) System administration of your machine: ITS Group Information Technology will not be responsible for your machine's administration. We will not be performing backups and any other services. It will be the responsibility of the client to maintain the machine, unless arrangements for this have been agreed upon in writing. However, we will assist the client with any administration tasks, including remote monitoring and scheduled data backups.
